Long time no post

It's been a while since I've posted, partly because I've been very busy, partly because not many people read this anyway (apart from the bloke that keeps spamming comments).

It's bee full steam ahead in preparation for the cricket season. Being Chairman, webmaster, point of contact for just about everything, U15 coach, groundstaff helper and general dogsbody takes a fair bit out of free time. It's been a bit of a nightmare over the last 3 weeks to be fair. I'm going to have to give some of those "jobs" up next year. Mind you, that's hat I said last year. This time I mean it though.

In other news I've been away for the best part of a week at our organisation's annual conference where I "dumb down" for the duration doing some proper work instead of my management role. I was working on the exhibitor registration desk being nice to people and handing out conference packs, badges and answering general enquiries. Fairly mundane, but nevertheless necessary stuff. The conference was in Bournemouth, a nice enough place, though I didn't get to see much of it, stuck in the conference centre 10 hours a day.

Mini (James) broke his arm last year if you remember, playing cricket. He had some pins and screws inserted into his elbow to keep it all in place. He;s in for day surgery today having the screws removed - in fact I'm typing this at his bedside, with him having just come out of surgery.

Nothing too much else of import to post just now apart from looking forward to the playoff's with Cardiff City aiming for Premiership glory....

iPhone 4

Well all the tech sites have done their own analysis of Gizmodo's iPhone 4 revelation, so I may as well put my three penn'orth in. I'm hardly a pillar of the tech community, so it's completely pointless me speculating, but I can, so I will.

I'm not convinced this is a final, or even close to final production unit. If it is, well, it's sort of dull (ish). It certainly didn't have me going "Wow" when I saw the pictures, but maybe it'd be better in real life. Who knows?

The specs sound impressive, and the suggestion that the battery is considerably larger than on current iPhones (although we don't know he power of it) will surely be welcome.

And what of the way in which this all came about? A supposedly luckless Apple employee (Gray someone or another) loses the heavily disguised unit in a bar. It's surely the stuff of conspiracy theories, and someone's probably already penning a screenplay for the film.

Anyways, I'll guess we'll find out in due course. Whatever the big 'A' produce in a couple of months, I'll probably be at the head of the queue. My contract on my 3G comes to an end next month, so I'm eagerly awaiting to see what Steve Jobs will unveil when the time comes. I just hope it makes me go "Wow"!

Time for a rest

Blimey. It's been a busy couple of weeks since we got back from the US. Work has been very busy, and it's been non stop up on the common trying to get the pitch ready for the impending cricket season. It's been in a hell of a mess thanks to the local ruby team training and herds of wild horses (well actually people from the local riding clubs) trampling all over it.

It's getting there but has taken a lot of time, effort, and not a little money.

Premiership dream a step closer: QPR0-1 City

Cardiff City edged one step closer to the Premiership dream today after beating QPR in a tense encounter at Loftus Road. In a game littered with chances for both sides it was Cardiff born Ledley's 80th minute header that ultimately secured a top 6 finish for the Bluebirds.

City agonisingly missed out on the play-off's last year by one goal, but have gone one better this year with a couple of games still to play. with local rivals Swansea also looking to secure a play-off spot, it could be a massive few weeks for south Wales football, and an even bigger event if City and the Jacks end up meeting in the final. What a day that would be!

For now, I'm content to bask in the glory of City's best ever finish in the league programme for many a long year.

Up the City!

Florida

Well we had a great time in Florida. It was a real blast. I'm not going to write about it here, because I've already written about it somewhere else. If you want to read the whole story beginning to end, it's in my "Trip Report" here on the DIBB website (Disney Information Bulletin Board). The DIBB is a fantastic resource on all things Disney and helped me enor-mouse-ly with tips and tricks for the holiday.

To read the report you'll probably have to register with the DIBB, but it's free and you won't get bombarded with email from them.

Alternatively, if you don't want to read the details (but trust me, some of the ride descriptions are worth it), you can just check out the 60 or so best photos from the several hundred I took at the link below.

Enjoy!

Asus eee

I've brought my 7" Asus Eee on holiday to Florida. I really haven't used it that much of late (at all really), so this was a chance to give it a failry good road test.

It's been fine for checking my email, Twitter and blogging and checking up on eateries here in Orlando, though sometimes the small screen has been irritating when you have to scroll web sites. On the flip side, I had no qualms about chucking it into a suitcase - but it's pretty robust.

I've also been using Open Office Writer to write up my trip report - which you'll be able to check out from a post here when I get back and it's complete.

The only problem I've had is that it didn't like connecting to the wifi in the villa at first, even tough it could see it. Once it did connect though it's been fine and connects on boot now with no problem.

I'm using the default Xandros linux install but have tweaked it so I'm accessing the KDE desktop rather than the "Easy Mode" it comes set up with.

All in all, I'm reasonably happy with it, though would perhaps prefer the format of a slightly bigger 10" netbook.

City 2-1 Jacks. Sweet Day

Can't say too much about this as I'm in Florida, but City grabbed thier first derby win over our bitter rivals the Jacks in 17 years with hero Michael Chopra grabbing the winner 2 mins into stoppage time.

My man at the match texted me to keep me up to date with events (thanks Andy), and we're now 8 points ahead of 7th spot with 5 to play. Surely a play-off place beckons?

Up the City!

By the way, it's mid 80's here and roasting. Lovin' it!
